We start this week with our third unit. A reading lab syllabus was handed out for Unit 3. As we looked at it together, we noticed that there is a great emphasis on transitional words and relationship within and between sentences. I will be distributing a handout that shows sets of transitional words related to each pattern of organization. In addition, on your reading lab syllabus, you will be tested on drawing conclusions. Before coming to a conclusion, you must know what is means to imply and infer. That is why we had a mini lesson on these two terms. I hope you were able to thoroughly understand these two important terms after our discussion.
During week 10, we will also complete unit one review for Chapters 1 - 5 in your vocabulary book. You will have a vocabulary quiz on these five chapters at the end of the week. Take a chapter a day on quizlet to refresh your memory.
Besides reviewing vocabulary, we will continue to review the basics of a paragraph: topic, main idea, and supporting details. In the review, you will be asked to identify the key term in the topic sentence. You will also apply what you've learned by taking part in a practice exam similar to the final exam. In this practice exam, you will be able to practice the rudimentary skills as well as new skills that will soon be introduced.
