Week 7

October 8 - 12, 2012
This week we have focused on the three most important parts of a paragraph:  Topic, Main Idea, and Supporting Details.  In our Cornell Notes for this chapter in Engage, we have reviewed and learned many things.  To begin with, we can determine the difference between topic sentence and main idea.  One is stated and the other implied.  Another thing learned was supporting details.  Many of you knew what supporting details are and their role in a paragraph.  However, when I asked the class to name the two types of supporting details, the majority didn't know.  At the end of the class, it was great to see your faces that confirmed your understanding of these topics.

Also this week, Chapter 4 in the vocabulary book was introduced and reviewed.  We will continue talking about this list as we get ready for the quiz on Monday, Oct. 15.  During the week and weekend, practice using these words and review with Quizlet.

In addition to the vocabulary quiz, you will also have a Unit 2-Ch. 3 quiz.  For this quiz, I suggest you use your Cornell Notes and textbook to review.  You might include completing some Townsend Press exercises for Chapter 2 - Main Idea and Chapter 3 - Supporting Details in your studying time.  If you study using both resources, you will pass with flying colors.
